A Monster Charity Total

17 NOV2010

Gavin Hastings and Sally Gunnell prepare for the First Monster Challenge

Organisers of the First Monster Challenge have announced that this year's 120km duathlon event raised more than £188,000 for good causes. The massive amount of money came from more than 1,000 competitors, including sporting legends Sally Gunnell and Gavin Hastings, who took on the gruelling relay around the banks of Loch Ness.

Some of the charities that will benefit from the funds include Save the Children, Neonatal Death Charity, Diabetes UK and Alzheimer's Scotland.

Sally Gunnell spoke of this fantastic achievement, "£188,000 is an amazing total. It's great to see that such a fantastic event can also provide much needed support to so many charities, in particular Save the Children."

Gavin Hastings added: "To continue to sell out year after year is a great achievement for the First Monster Challenge. But for the event to have also raised more than £188,000 in the current economic climate is exceptional. I am already looking forward to First Monster 2011."

Organisers of the duathlon challenge have confirmed that the 2011 race will take place on September 3, 2011, starting and finishing from Queens Park Stadium in Inverness. The entry limit this year is 235 teams of 4 and 50 team places have already been filled. 50 more spots have been released today at 2010 prices.
