25th Stornoway Half Marathon

The 2009 Hebridean 3 Race Challenge got underway on Saturday 23rd May with the 25th running of the Stornoway Half Marathon. It was a tough course starting in the Lews Castle grounds and winding round the windy seafront streets for a few miles, going off road at about seven miles onto a hilly mixture of soft gravel and stony tracks before finishing at Porters Lodge arch. Congratulations to Andy Joyce on becoming the first ever local winner, finishing in a quite stunning time of 1.16.17 and to Lucy Colquhoun of Carnethy AC, the first female home in a time of 1:28:05.
In second place was Bellahouston Road Runners Greig Glendinning in a time of 1:19:28, with Benjamin Kemp of Portobello AC finishing in third spot with a time of 1:20:24.
Anne Murray of Clydesdale Harriers was second in the women's race, with her club buddy Fiona McCue taking third position in a time of 1:34:03.
Vet Results
Peter Buchanan of Portobello was the first male veteran over 40 (MV40), finishing in a time of 1:21:45. Terry Coyle won the over 50s race, in a time of 1:23:07.
Lucy Colquhoun also won the female veteran over 35 (VF35) race, whilst Christine Duncanson of Clydesdale won the over 45 race in a time of 1:42:26.
Team Results
The local club, Stornoway Running and Athletic Club, won the men's team race with a combined time of 4:06:16.
Making a weekend of it were Clydesdale Harriers who also won the women's team race in a time of 4:50:27.
