Double Marathon Mayhem
11 NOV2010
Ultra runners looking for a fun challenge can now enter next year's the Glasgow-Edinburgh Double Marathon, taking place on April 9, 2011. Entries opened this month and runners who want to take part are reminded that there is a limit and entries will only be taken on a first come first served basis.
The course from Glasgow to Edinburgh will start at Ruchill Park in Glasgow, following the Forth & Clyde and Union canals, taking in the Antonine Wall and Falkirk Wheel. Runners will then enter Edinburgh, finishing at Edinburgh Quay. The course is mainly flat and on towpaths, but the 56 mile course is no stroll in the park and will be a good test for ultra newbies and veterans alike.
The event has grown in popularity over the past two years, with 72 finishers in 2010, compared to just 19 in 2009.
The double marathon is part of the Montane Scottish Ultra Marathon series, comprising 9 independently organised events across Scotland. Athletes will complete a minimum of four races to be in with a chance of winning the championship. Next year's championship will start with the Deeside Way Ultra in Aberdeenshire on March 19.
