Who Is Running In NYC?

25 OCT2010

Runners crossing one of New York's bridges

The ING New York City Marathon is less than two weeks away and we want to know who is heading across the pond to run in one of the biggest races in the world? Since its first running 40 years ago, the New York City Marathon has grown from a humble 55 finishers in year one, to now attracting more than 100,000 applicants annually.

The fun starts in the Big Apple on Sunday, October 31, with the Poland Spring Marathon Kickoff, a five mile race which allows runners to run part of the full marathon course and cross the marathon finish line. The ING new York City Marathon expo begins on Thursday, November 4, giving participants the chance to register for the event, pick up their race number and chip, as well as visiting over 100 exhibitors and vendors.

There will be several smaller races and events across the city in the run up to marathon day, including the Continental Airlines International Friendship Run on Saturday, November 6, followed by the Marathon Fireworks in the evening before the race.

Race day will begin with entertainment from 5.30am at Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island, before the first wave of runners will start at 9.40am. Runners and supporters will be able to celebrate in style, with a Post Race Party on the Sunday evening, while on the Monday, finishers will be able to purchase a special edition of the New York Times, showcasing all those who finished the race in under 4.5 hours.

If you are heading of to New York next weekend, please leave us a comment below, let us know if this is your first time in the Big Apple and what you are hoping to get from the race. Good luck to everyone who is taking part in the race, for more information on the race and how to get there from the UK, visit the Sports Tours International website.
