Outsider Festival

Outsider Festival

Organisers of the Outsider Festival - the event that offers a programme of bands and DJs, classic movies, comedy and cabaret and activities for kids, all under canvas - have added a second running event to the itinerary. The Festival returns to the Rothiemurchus Estate, near Aviemore, in the dramatic landscape of the Cairngorms National Park on June 27/28 and following the success of the 12K run around Loch An Eilein, a new relay event has been introduced. The new event will involve teams of 4 each running a 6k lap.

Although the exact routes will remain a secret until the day of the run (Saturday - June 27) the OutRunner 12K and the Rothie Relay will follow established world class undulating cross country trails on the Rothiemurchus Estate, through ancient pine forests and open moorland and along the shores of one of Scotland's most stunning lochs, with breathtaking views to the Cairngorm Mountains.

The OutRunner 12K, a solo trail run, follows a combination of estate tracks, trails and roads, passing along the shores of spectacular Loch An Eilein. The Rothie Relay, a 4 lap relay run of a 6k route for teams of two, three or four, follows part of the 12K route heading up towards the Loch and loops back to the start / finish area.

With up to 1000 runners of all abilities expected to take part, the start/finish area in the event arena for both races, will be a very sociable place to hang out for the afternoon. A commentator will keep supporters and other festival-goers fully informed as the competition unfolds, with music to add to the entertainment.

Race Director Malcolm Sutherland, from Caledonian Concepts, said:

"The 12k run is incredibly popular attracting around 600 runners of all abilities. We have added the Rothie Relay this year to encourage families, friends and groups of workmates to come to the Festival to not only enjoy the bands, DJ's, and comedy acts but also to take part in an open run in a fun and relaxed environment with like minded people.

"Rothiemurchus is a stunning location for a trail run. As a seasoned runner you can't help but be motivated and inspired by the beautiful surroundings. What better place to kick off your first race as a newcomer to the sport!"
