18 OCT2010

A bumper birthday turnout of 285 enjoyed fine autumn weather before post-run cake at edinburgh parkrun's big celebration on Saturday. Mascot Jog Scotty took an early lead in the race but flattered to deceive dropping out of contention early on, leaving the stage to James Jarvis (Hunter Bog Trotters) who needed a PB of 17 minute dead to beat first timer Joel Enoch by just two seconds. Close behind Joel was Edinburgh AC's Laura Claire Dunn (17:02) - her impressive run was also a PB.

£224.42 was donated to the Simpsons Special Care Babies charity. Donations doubtless encouraged by a huge array of tasty cakes that had been kindly brought along by some of the event participants who were keen to mark the occasion of 12 months of successful parkruns in Edinburgh.

Over in Glasgow there was also a big turn-out at Pollok Park (264 particpants); Greg Hastie (Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers) was first home in 17:10 with Suzanne McMahon fastest female runner in 20:32.

At the third Scottish parkrun event David Gardiner 16:48 (Kirkintilloch Olympians) was first nearly two minutes in front of Joe Chambers who recorded a PB of 18:41, another Kirkintilloch Olympian Graham McCabe (19:14) took third place in his first parkrun. Sarah Nelson (21:19) also claimed a PB and finished first female while new girl Carole Munro (Motherwell AC) was second female home in 21:55.
