Birthday Celebrations for Edinburgh parkrun

15 OCT2010

parkrun logo

Edinburgh parkrun celebrates its first birthday this Saturday with the event's 50th run! The celebratory event is due to get started with a warm-up at 9.15am, and a promise of home-baking - donated by other runners - at the end of the run. This birthday run is also made that bit more special as the profits are being donated to Simpsons Special Care Babies, and with around 200 expected tomorrow let's hope they can raise a substantial amount.

The Edinburgh 5k is a scenic course, running parallel to the Firth of Forth along the Cramond/Silverknowes Promenade near to the village of Cramond. With tomorrow predicted to be a mild and sunny day, with little wind, runners will have a ideal opportunity to see out across the Firth of Forth towards Cramond Island. And possibly record a PB on the flat course.

parkrun events began back in 2004 and since then the 5k time trails have spread all over the UK, allowing runners a regular challenge without a race entry fee. Currently, there are three parkrun events in Scotland: Edinburgh, Glasgow (Pollok Park) and at Strathclyde Park close to Motherwell and Hamilton, with the possibility of a new event starting in Falkirk soon.

Head over to the parkrun website to register and for all the latest updates! Registration for parkrun events is simple, taking about a minute to fill out the online form to get your personalised barcode which allows your running time to be easily noted after a race.
