Russell Impresses In Italy

13 OCT2010

Runners at Lake Garda

Local runner, Russell Whittington, took on the Lake Garda Marathon this weekend, coming 12th in an international field of 1,400 runners. The Bellahouston Road Runner was the top Brit in a race won by native runner Colnaghi Pietro.

Pietro took the title in a time of 2:28:23, followed by Swiss runner Oldani Lukas, three and a half minutes later. Russell crossed the line in 2:50:25, with the second Brit taking part, John Witton, finishing in 3:30:38, in 263rd place.

Russell told scottishrunningguide.com: "'The course was gently undulating with stunning views of Lake Garda and the Dolomites. The temperature was about 15 degrees and ideal for running with a light breeze. I started off a bit too quickly but then settled into a steady pace of about 6 min 30 per mile. The support in the small towns was great."

The International Lake Garda Marathon takes place every year in Italy, attracting a truly multi-national field, with runners from all over the world. Full results of the 2010 race can be found here.
