Nairnshire Challenge All Set For 2011

12 OCT2010

The 14th Nairnshire Challenge is set to take place on June 5, 2011 and applications for the 30-mile duathlon event are now being taken. The challenge has been moved to a new date this year and organisers are hoping to beat last year's record of 701 entries.

Teams of three will battle the course on foot and bike, travelling the length of Nairnshire, past its highest point to the sea. Since its establishment in 1997, the event has raised more than £360,000 for charity and organisers hope to bring this number well above £400,000 by the end of next year's event.

Organisers, the Rotary Club of Nairn, established the event to provide a fitness test to the local community, raising money for local charities and provide a fun event for the area. The challenge is not be be seen as a race and this year was not timed at all, as adverse weather conditions on the previous day led to safety precautions in a staggered start.

Teams for next year's event can register online now, for a fee of £66 per team of three. Each team is asked to raise a minimum of £150 and any team that raises £800 or more will gain free entry to the challenge in 2012. All money raised will be distributed to local charities and good causes as well as charities supported by Rotary International.
