Sun Shines Through 10 Miles For Kyle

14 SEP2010

Winner William Totten crosses the line.

The sun shone on September 12 on the brand new road race organised by the Kyles Marketing Group. The Kyles 10 miles was raced around the stunning natural circular course on the Ardlamont peninsula south of Tighnabruaich, Argyll and attracted over 80 runners, a fantastic achievement for the inaugural event.

Sponsored by the Forrest Group, Samteq, Duncanʼs Village Store and the Kames Hotel the success of the race leaves no doubt about its continued support with many participants asking for next yearʼs registration details.

With runners travelling from as far away as Inverness, the initial plan behind the event to help promote the area to a wider audience surpassed expectations.

The overall winner, William Totten from Bearsden, crossed the line in 1 hour and 7 minutes highlighting the standard of the participants, but did not overshadow the enthusiastic walkers crossing the line some time later! A veteran runner commented that "today was one of the best small and personal road races I have attended. The organisation, route and finish were just great. Well done to the team and thank you."

The Group were very fortunate to have Les Piggot who ran for Great Britain in the 1968 and 1972 Olympics to congratulate all the runners at the finish line and present the medals and prizes. His presence was very much appreciated by the organisers and runners alike who all gave him a very warm welcome.

The Kyles Marketing Group were confident that such a superb natural course was perfect for an event like the Kyles 10 Miles, was delighted with the turnout and would like to thank everyone who helped to make the day a success. Over £1000 was raised from the organisation of the run and will be distributed locally to worthwhile causes working towards the common aim of improving the area for the benefit of locals and visitors alike.
