Who Will Brave The Beeftub?

10 SEP2010

The Devil's Beeftub

The Devil's Beeftub Race has an interesting history since its establishment in 1992 and the small race is set to be just as much fun in its 18th running tomorrow as previous years, with a fun relay organised for those who have energy to spare after the main race.

The course takes runners around the famous Devil's Beeftub near Moffat. The 'Tub' is a deep, dramatic hollow, around 500 feet deep, formed by four surrounding hills and is certainly an impressive sight. John Blair-Fish and Roger Blamire pioneered the race in 1992, devising a route that started near Core Head Farm and ascending to the Eric Stone War Memorial, before taking runners around the Beeftub and over two hills, before the descent back to the start/finish.

The 2009 race had just 27 finishers, a big dip in numbers from the record entry of 86 in 2007. Course records currently stand at 19:50 for men, set by Brian Marshall (Haddington East Lothian Pacemakers) in 2007. The women's course record was set in 2005 by Jill Mykura (Carnethy Hill Running Club) with a time of 24:06.

Good luck to all participants taking on the Devil's Beeftub race tomorrow.
