Nicely Does It In Nairn
24 AUG2010
The Nairn Half Marathon took place this weekend, with 185 runners turning out to race in very windy conditions in the northeastern town. The race was part of the Nairn Highland Games, which provided a fantastic atmosphere around the start/finish points of the race.
Niku Millott of Metro Aberdeen won the race in 1:16:36 with Richard Meade of Edinburgh AC close behind. First in the ladies race was home runner Lizzie O'Grady in 1:30:18, helping Nairn Road Runners to also take home the women's team prize. Julie Hendry of Metro Aberdeen came second in the ladies race with a time of 1:31:23.
Finishing things off was Carolyn Hare in 2:42:23. Jose Morais was the mid point runner in 1:46:56. All finishers received a goody bag and medal for their efforts and were able to enjoy the rest of the day at the Highland Games after the race.

Actually, there were no medals for the finishers. When I took this up with the race Director (I thought, that my coming in last, maybe I missed the medal hand-out), he said that due to finances being tight this year and the entry fee not having been increased, it was a case of teeshirts OR medals. Not both. I guess there's not much can be said about that but I was a 'little' put out as being a charity runner, it is unlikely I'll run another distance race, so was looking forward to a medal as a keepsake for my valiant (slow) efforts! The thought of a medal is what keeps the back of the pack going at times! Shame really, cos teeshirts whilst useful, don't last long after a dozen washes. Hopefully the race will receive better sponsorship next year, so that everyone attending can get the advertised medal and goody bag. So "come on local businesses- get your pledge in there as sponsors for next year!"
