Over Ten Thousand Women Pound the Streets of Glasgow
11 MAY2009
Congratulations to all 10,740 women who completed the Ignis Asset Management Women's 10K on Sunday. For many this was their first ever 10k race and they ran or walked the challenging 6.2 miles in aid of their chosen charities, in memory of loved ones or to achieve a personal goal. The event raised more than £1million for charities. Glasgow's Southside streets and parks were full of supporters and well wishers cheering on the women of various ages, shapes, sizes and running outfits.
The weather for the most part was kind to the women but later on the skies opened up and the slower participants found themselves being soaked by heavy rain and hailstones. The weather didn't dampen their enthusiasm though or their sense of achievement as they made their way to Bellahouston Park and over the finish line.
