Enter Now For Chris Moon Half Marathon

21 MAY2010

Runners wishing to celebrate the Strathaven Gala Week with a Half Marathon will need to be quick, with the closing date for the Chris Moon Half Marathon just four days away. This charity race on June 6 will start within the new wind farm development at Whitelees Forest, raising money for the Erskine Hospital, of which Chris Moon is a patron.

The course will take in some spectacular views over the Glasgow/Clyde basin and over towards Ayrshire and the Isle of Arran. The wind farm has good paths and the wind turbines will certainly help to keep your eyes occupied. The course is undulating within the wind farm and will continue downhill on to roads leading to the finish line in Strathaven.

Racers will each be given a pie and a half pint as they cross the line as a reward for their efforts. At only £16/14 entry, £10 of which will be given to the Erskine Hospital, the Chris Moon Half Marathon is sure to be a great race, in a fun atmosphere. Entrants have until May 25 to enter online.

About Chris Moon

Chris Moon is a former Army officer with operational experience who worked for a charity clearing landmines in Asia and Africa. He is one of few westerners to have survived kidnap by the Khmer Rouge guerillas in Cambodia. Two years later he was blown up in a remote minefield in East Africa. He was walking in a supposedly cleared area in Mozambique in 1995 when the blast resulted in the loss of his lower right arm and leg. Doctors say he survived against the odds due to his determination and fitness.

Within a year of leaving hospital he successfully completed the London Marathon and a Masters Degree in Security Management. He's done numerous marathons and many of the world's toughest ultra marathons including the Great Sahara Run and Badwater the 135-mile continuous ultra through Death Valley to the mountains. He's taken parties to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and run the length of Cambodia to raise funds for charities assisting the disabled.
