"Wet wet wet! and breezy blowy windy!" that's how one of the over eight hundred runners at the 24th Troon 10k described Wednesday's race. The torrential rain, sleet, hailstones and gale force winds made it a challenging event but the marvelous support provided by the stewards and the hardy Ayrshire locals kept runners going to the very end.
The wild weather didn't stop Shettleston Harriers scoring a 1-2 with Tsega Tewelde in first place (30:45) and Amanuel Woldeselassie in second place (30:47). David Phee of Giffnock North AC followed up in a time of 32:04. The first woman was Toni McIntosh of Ayr Seaforth in 36:05, Kara Tait, Kilmarnock Harriers, was second in 39:04 and Emma Birnie, Bellahouston Road Runners, finished in third place in a time of 39:54.
However on a night when everyone had to battle against the elements, every one of the over eight hundred finishers were winners !
