Inspiring Stories At Women’s 10K
7 MAY2010

Rebecca Pender is taking part in this weekend's Ignis Asset Management Women's 10K as part of a wider fundraising campaign with Cancer Research Uk and her employers, Santander. Rebecca is part of a team raising money to fund a mobile cancer screening unit for Glasgow and surrounding areas.
The team's target of £160,000 will allow a mobile cancer screening unit to tour around Glasgow and surrounding areas for 2011. Rebecca's employers, Santander, will also double whatever the team raises, meaning the mobile cancer screening unit can see more people, having time to reach further afield.
Speaking about Sunday's race, Rebecca told scottishrunningguide.com, " With two days left until the race my nerves are starting to set in. I guess I'm nervous because this is my first ever race and I want to do well. I am not worried about my time, I know that I can and will finish the race, as long as I'm not still walking on Monday morning then I will be proud."
In addition to the mobile screening unit, the team will travel abroad to be joined by Santander colleagues in Brazil to work on a primary school in Sertao (near São João da Alianca, central Brazil). This local facility was built by the Sir Bobby Moore Foundation and Cancer Research UK in 2004 and is falling into disrepair, the team will be carrying out plastering, painting and general DIY to reinstate this facility at the heart of this community.
Rebecca's fundraising will continue with a sponsored weight loss and tandem skydive later this year. To support Rebecca in her exciting challenges, and to donate to these fantastic causes, visit her fundraising page.
