Battle Of The Continents

14 APR2010

Bupa Great Edinburgh Run

The Bupa Great Edinburgh Run is shaping up to see some great battles between elite running stars from across the world, with top male athletes confirmed to be competing in the May 2 race.

The newly created 10 kilometre course will see top African athletes Edwin Sol and Vincent Yator take on fierce competition from Europe, in Sergey Lebid and Irish number one, Martin Fagan.

Peter Riley, elite athletes manager for the race said, "I'm still building the field and I hope to announce additions later in the week. I will also be confirming what I believe to be a highly competitive women's field."

As well as a strong elite field, the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run on May 2 will attract thousands of runners of all abilities, competing alongside some of the world's best athletes. The race, now in its 6th year back in the capital, will be broadcast live on Channel 5 from 10am, with an hour's worth of highlights shown later that evening on BBC2.

The scenic course will take runners on a tour through some of Edinburgh's most iconic landmarks, including Edinburgh Castle, down the Royal Mile, past the Scott Monument, finishing up by the Scottish Parliament and across the forecourt of the Holyrood Palace. The day will also include the Bupa Junior and Mini Great Edinburgh Run, taking place in the afternoon, after the main race has finished.

Entries for all events are still open and readers of scottishrunningguide.com can find more information and enter online here.
