Downie and Renault Win Scottish parkruns

Some 415 runners completed the free 5k parkruns held in Glasgow and Edinburgh on Saturday, March 20. The Glasgow event attracted 243 and was won by Kevin Downie in a time of 16:49, Emily Paterson won the women's event in a time of 22:02, whilst in Edinburgh Neil Renault was first in a field of 172 in a time of 14:54 with Janet Roxburgh first woman in 18:37.

In the battle of the giants on the East Coast, Edinburgh AC's Neil Renault beat Hunter Bog Trotter Murray Strain by two seconds to win with a new course PB of 14:54. This was Neil's fourth outing at the Edinburgh parkrun and he maintains his 100% record of winning every one that he has participated in. Likewise in the women's event Arran Runner Janet Roxburgh maintained her 100% record by winning in 18:37 for the second time. Janet beat Eilis McKechanie of Hunters Bog Trotters by 44 seconds, with Katie Whitehouse of Central AC placing third in a time of 20:23.

Kevin Downie (VM40-44) of East Kilbride AAC won at the second attempt in a time of 16:49, finishing 12 seconds ahead of Kilbarchan AAC's Fraser Williams (SM20-24) representing Kilbarchan AAC. Marcos Sanz Gomez, (SM25-29) of Bellahouston Road Runners placed third in a time of 17:40. In her fifth attempt Emily Paterson (SW25-29) won in a time of 22:02. Emily Paterson beat East Kilbride AAC's youngster Rachael Thomson (JW15-19) by 16 seconds recording 22:18 in the process. Tonia Davidson (SW25-29) placed third in a time of 22:21.
