New parkrun Set For April

17 MAR2010

parkrun organisers have been given the go-ahead by park management and Scottish Athletics to stage a weekly event in Strathclyde Country Park. This first event is due to be staged on Saturday, April 10.

The course is an 'out and back' from the path after the last of the carparks by the watersports centre, up to the far (west) end of the loch, and down in a 1.5k-2k loop the other side. A loop around the loch is too long, and the layout of the park/path on the east end of the loch just wasn't practical for a weekly event, which is expected to be a popular third parkrun event in Scotland.

Plans for further parkruns in Scotland at Stirling and Inverness are progressing and as at Strathclyde Park, organisers are looking for volunteers to do the various tasks associated with staging the 5k time trial event.

There are currently 31 parkruns in the UK and Denmark, with more starting every week. Last week, for the first time, parkrun had over 4,000 people running. More details at http://www.parkrun.com
