Fifth Time Jebb Leads 500 Over the Hills

Almost 500 runners took to the hills on Saturday, February 13 to participate in the 40th staging of the 'Tiso' Carnethy 5 Hill Race. Weather conditions were near perfect as the second ever largest field assembled at Silverburn village,10 miles south west of Edinburgh to run the six mile course, ascending 2500 feet and climbing over five summits.
Record Breaking Rob
Rob Jebb (Bingley) became the first man to win the race five times, completing the course over hard ground in 48:41, just 17 seconds ahead of local club runner Andrew Symonds, with Prasad Prasad (Clydesdale) earning third and just sneaking under 50 minutes, with a time of 49:53.
A Gordon for Me
The first woman was Hunter Bog Trotter Claire Gordon in 65:12; with runner-up Sarah Ridgeway of Eryi Harriers 35 seconds behind and Helen Bridle third in 66:43.
Carnethy's Claymore
The team race for the Claymore was very hard fought but Carnethy were triumphant for the third year in succession, narrowly defeating rivals Hunter Bog Trotters by four points. Stewart Whitie, Andrew Fallas, John Mitchell and Steven Fallon all counted for the host club.
Lochaber Lassies
Lochaber won the women's race beating Edinburgh AC by 20 points with Sarah Byrnes, Amanda Blackhall and Sarah Mackenzie all counting for the Fort William club.
