Tough Task For Nick Smith

21 JAN2010

Scotland's Nick Smith aims to take stiff competition in his stride as he prepares to compete against established sprinters Craig Pickering and Harry Aikines Aryeetey in the 60m event at the Kelvin Hall on January 30.

It's not the first time that Scottish 60m record holder Smith has lined up against Pickering, having raced against him at last year's Aviva International Match. Smith ran so well he set the new Scottish record of 6.63 and finished in 3rd place.

Smith said: "I am feeling in good shape and looking forward to racing against other quality athletes on home soil. Training has been going really well and, despite the recent weather conditions, my coach, Stuart Hogg, has managed to adapt my programme and has often travelled to Glasgow to allow me to continue my full training regime".

As well as Pickering (GB & NI) and Aikines Aryeetey (Commonwealth Select), Smith will be up against reigning USA indoor champion Mark Jelks and Sweden's Stefan Tarnhuvd.

Tickets for the Aviva International Match at the Kelvin Hall on Saturday, January 30 are available by phone on 08000 556 056 or online at www.uka.org.uk
