25 APR2009

Parkrun 21

Glasgow Parkrun continues to go from strength to strength with Saturday's event achieving a record 238 runners, including 79 people running in their first Parkrun. The Pollok Park race continues to attract runners from a wide range of abilities and ages. The Pollok Park race continues to attract runners from a wide range of abilities and age groups. Almost half of Saturday's participants (117) were women. Super Veteran, Jeff Farquhar, won the race in a time of 17:01, in almost perfect running conditions. The first woman, Donna Findlayson, 30 years younger than Jeff, finished in a time of 18:56.

The numbers were swelled by an influx of runners from the famous Kilmarnock Harriers Athletics Club together with a number of fun runners in fancy dress. The inclusion of Saturday's race in the Kilmarnock Club Championship and as a charity fund running event reflects the diverse nature of Scotland's fastest growing race.

Greg Hastie (SM35-39) was the second male, finishing in 17:07, with Alan Derrick (VM40-44) placed third in a time of 17:09. Kara Tait (SW20-24) was second woman in 19:17, with Jacqui Thomson, (VW45-49) placed third in a time of 19:27. The final finisher was Junior Runner, Jennifer McGhee who finished in 238th position with a time of 56:16.
