Fancy A Fling ?

12 DEC2009

As 2009 draws to a close and thoughts turn to a new personal target for 2010 some of you may wish to focus on a 5k, 10k, half marathon or even a full marathon. If however you've already achieved these targets then why not think about running an Ultra. The Ultra Marathon from Milngavie to Tyndrum, held on April 24, is a 53 mile race through some of Scotland's greatest scenery.

Runners have a maximum of 12-15 hours, depending on category, to complete the 53 mile 'Fling'course along the southern part of the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Tyndrum. All runners must be 21 years old or over. The 'Fling' is designed to be run unsupported. The organisers will distribute drop-bags prepared by the runner and labelled with the appropriate race number along the route at the various checkpoints.

2009 was a bumper year for the 'Fling' with team and individual records being smashed. 305 runners entered, 275 started and 242 finished the gruelling race. Next year's 'Fling' is gearing up to be another runaway success with both the relay race and the ceilidh having already sold out. Never mind though, if you manage to run 53 miles the Dashing White Sergeant may be the last thing on your mind.
