Brown's Revenge at West District XC

Danielle Brown who finished runner-up to Victoria Park/City of Glasgow's Nicola Hood at last year's West District Cross Country Women's Championship managed to pip her rival near the end to claim gold this year by one second. The two nineteen year olds battled it out from the start with Hood leading for most of the race before the Springburn youngster caught her to finish in 24:22. Brown's club mate Fiona Gentles placed bronze with 24:48.
Ayr's running sensation Toni McIntosh placed fourth in 24:52.
Sprinburn's Clare Gemmell won the vets' race finishing 13th overall in a time of 26:21 just ahead of runner-up Rhona Bushfield of Inverclyde in 26:29.
An impressive 92 runners competed in the Irvine event.
Gold Finches
VP-Glasgow AC's mother and daughter pairing of Susan and Rebecca Finch combined with Nicola Hood and Rhian Dawes to earn gold in the women's team race with a total of 54 points. Just two points behind were Kilbarchan AAC, with Kerry Lang, Cara Sloss, Christina Rankin and Karen Glendinning accumulating a total of 56 points. Danielle Brown and Fiona Gentles assisted by Clare Gemmell and Kirsten Ferguson helped Springburn Harriers to third place with an aggregate score of 67 points.
