New Prison Record at Edinburgh

9 DEC2009

jill knowles

The poor weather forecast and competition from the cross country championships pushed down the numbers at Saturday's Edinburgh parkrun to below 100 for the first time. However the 90 runners that participated in the eighth staging of the weekly event were rewarded with excellent running conditions and a new women's record.

Lothian's Brian Turner (M35-39) won the 5k Cramond race for the second time, on his fourth appearance, in a time of 16:34. Whilst first time parkrunner, Jill Knowles of the Scottish Prison Service AAC set a new course record of 18:20 in the women's event.

Men's Race

Paul Roarty (M30-34) took 34 seconds off of his course PB to pip Moorfoot's Darin Dougal in the race for second place. The Fife runner finished in 17:14 ,just seven seconds ahead of his, slightly older, Peebleshire rival.

Women's Race

The Scottish Prison Service AAC placed first and second in the women's race.
Jill Knowles (W30-34) took 18 seconds off of the course record set on November 21 by HBT's Claire Gordon to finish ahead of her 40 year old friend and colleague Jennifer Telford, who placed second with a time of 20:10. In her third parkrun Lucy Marshall (W30-34) earned third place with her slowest time to date, 22:47.

The race was closed by Alison Munro who took 19 seconds off of her PB to finish in 90th place with a time of 32:55.

There were 18 first-time runners and 23 personal bests were recorded.
