Castle Series Gets Underway

The Running Shop Round the Castles Series got underway on Sunday, October 15 at Crathes Castle near Banchory with a healthy turnout in most age groups and despite the recent rainfall the weather on the day was pretty much perfect.
The Men's 6M distance looks set to be a competitive series with Robbie Simpson the winner on the day in 33.21 followed closely by last year's winner Barney Phillips in 33.42 and Matthew Sullivan coming home 3rd in 34.10. The Women's 3M race was comfortably won by Clare Whitehead 20.08 with Veronique Oldham coming second in 21.45 and Carolyn McLeod 3rd in 21.42. There were also impressive runs over the same 3M course by U15Boys winner Michael Ferguson with a time of 19.53 and U17 Women's winner Ellie Buchan in 20.47.
The series moves on to Haddo House near Ellon on January 24 of 2010 and finishes at House of Dun near Brechin on February 28. Remember that runners don't need to have taken part in the first race to take part in any of the races that follow.
The scenic multi-terrain courses around the three National Trust for Scotland properties are mainly trail paths and grass with different categories for all ages from nine years old upwards. Why not take part in the next two races for some great winter training, whatever your 2010 running goals are?
