Glasgow's Loss is Edinburgh's Gain

23 NOV2009

Andrew Douglas

With the Glasgow parkrun being cancelled due to flooding a number of west coast runners made their way to the capital city where they helped the Edinburgh event achieve a record number of participants.

However it just wasn’t quantity that Edinburgh attracted but quality too with Inverclyde AC’s Andrew Douglas and Cambuslang’s Robert Gilroy battling it out to finish first and second in the race at their first ever attempt.

Caithness based Douglas (MS20-24) was first over the finish line in a time of 15:23, some 17 seconds ahead of regular Glasgow parkrunner Gilroy (MS30-34) in 15:40. Last week’s winner Lothian’s Brian Turner (MS35-39) improved his course PB by another 16 seconds to place third in a time of 15:53, thus ensuring that the first three athletes all finished under 16 minutes.

Edinburgh Women Do It For Themselves

New runners swept the board in the women’s race but there was no west coast influence as Edinburgh club runners took first, second and third places. Hunter Bogs Trotter (HBT) Clair Gordon (FS30-34) continued her winning form from last week’s East Borders League Cross Country Championship to place first in 18:38. Corstophine’s Jo Kirby (FS30-34) repeated her second place finish at the Co-op Jog Scotland 5k but took 89 seconds off of her time to finish in19:22. Another athlete significantly reducing her PB at the fast Cramond course was HBT’s Morag McCracken (FS25-29) who earned third spot in 19:49.

The sixth Edinburgh parkrun was closed by fourteen year old Emily Kilpatrick who improved her time by 274 seconds to finish in 213rd place in 48:18.
