No Phantom Runners, No Unknown Athletes and No Free Tables at Fifth Edinburgh parkrun

18 NOV2009

parkrun 5

East coast showers couldn't dampen the spirits of more than 150 runners who braved the weather to participate in the fifth Edinburgh parkrun on Saturday, November 14. In his second appearance, Lothian AC's Brian Turner (SM35-39) recorded his first win, crossing the line in a time of 16:09. Exactly one minute behind was, far travelled Yorkshireman, Mark Ruddleston (VM55-59) of Rotherham Harriers & AC who finished as runner-up. Iain Taylor (VM40-44) of Carnegie Harriers has run in every event to date and was rewarded for his efforts by placing third in a time of 17:13.

Women's Race

In her inaugural appearance, Corstophine's Lillian Macruary (VW35-39) won her battle with Carnegie Harrier Catriona McCracken (SW30-34) by eight seconds to earn first place in 20:48. In her second run Denise Muir, (VW40-44) of Portobello RC improved last week's time by 7 seconds to earn third place in a time of 21:00. Women's race winner Lillian Macruary was one of 51 first-time Edinburgh parkrunners, whilst third placed Denise Muir was one of 50 returning runners recording a personal best. Unattached Sarah Tobin (SW25-29) closed the event, finishing in 151st position with a time of 38:27.

Edinburgh Efficiency

Well done to the Edinburgh volunteers and runners who ensured that the day ran smoothly, no false names, no 'unknown athletes' and a high proportion of runners using the new barcode system.

Post Race Café

After the race, every table in the Cramond cafe was occupied by runners and volunteers enjoying their well deserved post-race nutrition and banter.
