Shettleston Clean Sweep at Stirling

It was 1,2,3 and 4 for Shettleston Harriers at the Stirling 10k on Sunday, September 20, as the Glasgow Club's Eritrean refugees destroyed the field. All four runners finishing in sub 30 minutes, with Twelde Tsegai taking the honours in an amazing time of 29.07, only one second ahead of his club mate Tsegezeab Woldemichael.
Teweldeberhan Mengisteab finished third in 29:19 and Amanuel Hagos in 29:50, it was therefore no surprise that Shettleston won the men's team race. Ayr's Toni McIntosh continued her excellent form, beating Central's Alison Docherty by 40 seconds to finish first women in 35:08.

There was a closer battle for third and fourth places in the Women's Race with Edinburgh's Jenny McLean seeing of the challenge of Fife Vet Morgan Murphy by a two second margin, to claim third spot in 36:44.

Edinburgh AC's, Dublin born Queen Margaret University student, Niamh Devlin, who finished sixth woman, with a time of 37:41 told SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDE "I really enjoyed the race, even the sneaky wee hill at 8k. There was a good mixture of town and countryside and excellent support from the marshals and locals. The Women's Race was really competitive and I was happy to finish just ahead of Jill Knowles, with a time of 37:41."

In the Vet Races, Edinburgh's Neil Thin won the men's event in 32:22, with Pitreavie's Jeff Farquar earning the Super Vet prize, with a time of 33:00. Beryl Junnier of Wee County Harriers won the Woman's Super Vet Race, with a time of 39:30.

Organising club, Central AAC won the Women's Team race.

Over 800 runners completed the race, the last of the Stewart's Grand Prix series.
