Nell Hopes For Top 10 Place

11 SEP2009

Speaking earlier today to SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDE, celebrity runner Nell McAndrew said that her biggest concern was not the Loch Ness monster but the Loch Ness midges. Nell is taking part in the First Monster Challenge tomorrow - her third consecutive appearance at the event.

The First Monster Challenge is a 120km team relay duathlon around the shores of Loch Ness and Nell will be joined by Gavin Hastings, Graham White, a top duathlete, and one mystery person to form the 'Monster Celebrity' team. Each member of the team of four will complete two legs of the eight legged event - one 10km run and one 20 km cycle and Nell is hoping that the team can achieve a Top 10 place.

Organisers FirstGroup are encouraging all competitors to raise money for its national charity partner, Save the Children and Nell said: "Save the Children is a wonderful charity and targets the children that need help most. Let's hope that we can top the £100,000 raised in 2008."

Nell continued: "I love this event, it's staged in such a beautiful part of the country and the two legs are tough but manageable. I'm lucky to have my young son Devon and my mum with me so it's not all hard work. I'll have a great weekend as long as I stay clear of those midges!"

Nell will follow her First Monster Challenge appearance with the Great North Run on September 20 where she will be joined by her mum who is also running in the big half marathon.

A full profile of Nell McAndrew and her running secrets will appear in the Winter edition of SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDE.
