Perth Road Runners Triumph in Local Race

2 SEP2009

Local Road Runners Michael Carroll and Keri Weatherhogg won the Perth 10k on Sunday, August 30. In a field of over 250, Carroll placed first, crossing the finishing line in a Season Best of 31:02, whilst his female counterpart, Weatherhogg, who recently won the Women’s Tour of Fife Series prize, continued her good form by also running a Season Best, placing first Woman in 39:52.

Carrol, who recently won the Graham Clark Memorial race at Knockhill, saw off the challenge of Cambuslang’s in-form Robert Gilroy, who claimed second spot in 31:54. Fourteen seconds behind Gilroy was Corstophine’s David Simpson who earned third place finishing in 32:08.

Weatherhogg outpaced Sarah Currie who finished second woman with a time of 40:09, whilst Perth Road Runner Meike Cooper, winner of the recent RSPB Abernethy 10 mile race, completed a great month by earning a new PB, with a time of 41:17, to claim third prize.

Ian Smith

Harmeny's Ian Smith, who finished in 91st place with a Season Best of 44:42, told SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDE "That was hard work! But I got under 45 minutes for the first time this year. The race was well organised, plenty of marshals and kilometre markers, plus a water station that you passed twice, so can't say fairer than that."
