First Timers Fiesta as Glasgow parkrun Attracts Another 250

23 AUG2009

glasgow parkrun

With a number of regular runners participating in the Isle of Bute 10k, it was the new comers who stole the show at the 37th Glasgow parkrun. However the turnout wasn't affected as for the second time the numbers reached the 250 mark. First time runners claimed the first four places in the event, held at Pollok Park on Saturday August 22.

Men's Race

First to cross the line was Central AC's Lewis Millar (M25-29) in a time of 15:37, twelve seconds ahead of young club mate Scott McDonald (JM15-19). Ronhill Cambuslang's Christopher Wilson (M25-29) finished in third spot in 15:57, with Kilbarchan Junior Scott Hawkings (MJ15-19) placing fourth in 16:29.

Women's Race

In the Women's Event it was Claire McCracken (F30-34) of Victoria Park/City of Glasgow who earned maximum points by crossing the line in 19:53. This was Claire's first sub 20 min 5k of the year and she took 44 seconds off of her parkrun PB to achieve it. Unattached Fiona Hall (VF40-44) ran her first ever parkrun in 20:11 to claim second spot. Bellahouston Road Runner Shona Donnelly (FV40-44), in her ninth running, earned third place with a time of 20:16.

The race was closed by first time parkrunner, Jaqueline Cox (FV45-49) in 250th position with a time of 45:55.

Completing his third parkrun in a time of 17:44, Duncan McGoughan (VM40) told SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDEI enjoyed another parkrun today, albeit my performance was a bit below par. The course was testing as usual but it’s still attracting more and more runners by the week. My target is still that elusive 17mins and I will be returning again to give it another attempt.”
