8 AUG2009
Almost one hundred runners competed in the Bella Belter 10k at Glasgow's Pollok Park on Friday August 7. The stars on the night were Glasgow University's Daniel Bradford and Ayr Seaforth's running sensation Toni McIntosh.
Men's Race
In the final race in this week's Tour of Clydeside 4-race series, Chris Devenney, the series leader, led from the start but with less than 500m to go Bradford, running in his first race of the series, used his fresh legs to size the initiative and sprinted home in a time of 34:03, ten seconds ahead of his Kilbarchan rival. Local club runner Bellahouston Harrier Alun Myers finished third in 35:49.
Women's Race
The Women's Race was slightly less competitive with Toni McIntosh recovering well from her cramp at Wednesday's Dundonald race to finish in 37:43, more than two minutes ahead of series leader Ruth Joss of Giffnock/Glasgow Uni who finished in 40:00. Joss's Glasgow Uni running mate Kilbarchan's Jessica Martin earning third spot with a time of 40:32.
Unattached Andy Gray closed the race and the series by finishing in 92nd position in 01:04:58.
Race winner Daniel Bradford told SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDE "It was a really good race. Chris Devenney dragged me around the course but I held on and managed a strong finish. It's the first time I'm run in the Tour of Clydesdale Series and I really enjoyed it. Well done to the organisers".
