Westerlands Home With a Song in the Air

6 AUG2009

In a successful night for Westerland Cross Country Club, Chris Upson won the first race of this week's Tour of Clydeside 4-race series and Ellen Homewood finished second behind Giffnock’s Ruth Joss.

50 runners took part in the Kilbarchan Klassic along the Renfrewshire village’s disused railway line on Monday August 3. Westerland’s Chris Upson led the race from the start, although he was joined for a spell by Chris Devenney. The two leaders ran side by side until the halfway point at about 4.4km, where they hit the turn in 15:10. Just after 5km Upson increased the pace and opened up a gap but slowed again, allowing Kilbarchan’s John McMillan to close in on him from 7km. The two of them battled it out for the rest of the race where a strong finish by Upson took him over the finishing line in first place,
