Record Field for Glasgow Park Run

14 APR2009

park run girls

The Easter Holiday and the spring sunshine helped to attract a record 186 participants to the 19th Glasgow Park Run. The forthcoming Ignis Asset Management Women's 10K may have helped swell the number of female runners. Over 80 women took part in the Pollok Park event, including some 36 women completing their first ever Park Run. However the number of men also continues to grow, with a further 26 men taken part in their first Park Run.

However it's not just the new participants who enjoyed their Easter Saturday run, as some 66 runners improved their Personal Best times for the event. Youngsters and not so youngsters ran side by side, with an age span of over fifty years separating the youthful 14year old runners from their counterparts in their late 60s.

Whilst the vast majority of runners came from the Greater Glasgow area, participants also came from Fife, Greater Manchester, Richmond, and even Kilmaurs!

Of course the fun didn't stop when the race finished as many runners retired to the Burrell for the usual drinks and cakes as well as the pleasant addition of bacon rolls.
