Perfect Day at the Honest Toun
28 JUL2009
The organisers couldn’t have hoped for a better day at the Musselburgh Festival 10k on Saturday July 25. Glorious sunshine, a record field of 335 runners, a number of top class performances and exciting finishes in both the Men’s and Women’s races led to a great race. Indianapolis based Kris Gauson won the race in 32:04 with Sula Young of Hunters Bog Trotters winning the, closely contested, Women’s Race in a time of 36:23.
Men’s Race
Edinburgh born Gauson (21) beat his Butler University colleague by three seconds. St. Louis born Matt Lawder, also 21, finishing in 32:07. Also from across the sea but not quite as far was third placed Willowfield Harrier David Simpson, the Northern Irish runner finishing in 32:11.
Women’s Race
Young finished five seconds ahead of Scottish Veteran Fiona Matheson, who recorded a season best of 36:28. Immediately behind Fiona was Central AC’s Alison Docherty, who took almost one minute off of her PB to finish in 36:32.
The race, over a flat course but with a number of tight bends and some energy sapping grass sections, was closed by Jog Scotland MV40 Laz Gaunt in 70:42.
