Local runner, seventeen year old, Robbie Simpson won today's Ballater 10 mile road race in a remarkable time of 56:30. Having just become old enough to participate in the event, this was Simpson's first attempt at the scenic Royal Deeside 10 mile road race. In second place was, Forfar Half Marathon winner, James Britton of Moorfoot Runners in 57:28 with veteran John Matheson of Metro Aberdeen third in 58:38.

Aberdeen AAC's Pamela Tosh won the Women's Race in 65:12 over two minutes quicker than her closest rival, Keri Weatherhogg of Perth Road Runners who finished in 65:15 and Bellahouston RR's Rebecca Johnson who finished third in 67:40.

Almost 190 Runners

An increased field saw some 188 runners completing the course this year. Jane MacAskill of Metro Aberdeen, who finished in 173rd position in a time of 96.16, told SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDE " I ran the race in constant drizzly damp conditions, which were good for running but I was soaked right through by the time I finished. The hill between four and five miles was hard going but overall it's a lovely scenic course on quiet country roads with about two miles on forest tracks and trail."
