Race For Life Finale in Aberdeen

The Granite City turned pink on Sunday (July 1) as the final Scottish Race for Life of the year took place in Aberdeen. 4,500 women and girls ran, jogged and walked the 5K race wearing fairy wings, feather boas and a plethora of other pink-coloured items at the city's Kings Links. This year, Cancer Research held 13 events across Scotland with the biggest race taking place in Glasgow and attracting 12, 500 entrants. Sunday's course took participants along the Esplanade towards Bridge of Don before doubling back to finish close to the starting line.

Race for Life was established in 1994 and now has over 200 women-only events across the UK. Since it began 4.7 million women have raised over £370 million to help fund Cancer Research UK's life saving work - making it the biggest fundraising event in the UK.

Emma Gilbert, head of Race for Life, said: "All women can embrace Race for Life whatever their age, fitness level or background to raise money for all cancers. Every two minutes someone in the UK is told they have cancer. It touches so many lives and the back signs worn by everyone taking part are a moving reminder to us all that women are taking part to celebrate lives that have been saved but also sadly lives that have been lost."
