Sun By The Seaside At Baker Hughes 10k

22 MAY2012

The 3652 runners who headed to the beach on Sunday (May 20) for the City of Aberdeen Baker Hughes 10k were treated to sunny and bright conditions. Aberdeen's Lord Provost set participants on their way in a race which saw Scottish international Ben Hukins take first place in a time of 32:25.

Organised by Sport Aberdeen, the 10k event has established itself as one of the most popular races in the north east since its inception in 1987. Aberdeen AAC's Hukins, who has now recorded victory for three consecutive years, finished almost one minute ahead of Forres Harriers' Kyle Greig (33:19), with David Munro taking third position (33:34).

In what was a successful day for the club, Aberdeeen AAC's Nicola Gauld was the first female to cross the line in 35:41. Gauld was followed by Lesley MacFadyen (37:21) and Carolyn Milne (38:33).

Graham Morrison, events and projects officer at Sport Aberdeen, told scottishrunningguide.com: "It was brilliant to see so many runners take part in this year's event, as well as a fantastic amount of spectators turning out to offer their support. As ever, the event has proved to be extremely popular and has raised a huge amount of money for a variety of good causes, including our official race charities."

Feedback on the event facebook page saw runners expressing their gratitude to the volunteers and for the weather on the day. One competitor commented: "The weather was incredible which made the occasion all the more enjoyable."

Results of the City of Aberdeen Baker Hughes 10k and Fun Run are available here.
