Noble Victor at Glasgow parkrun
14 JUL2009
Another stunning day on Saturday July 11 helped to attract a record turnout of 247 runners to the 32nd Glasgow parkrun. Pro-triathlete Gavin NOBLE (SM25-29) took his second victory in as many starts, finishing in an excellent 15:37 and just five seconds short of the course record. Erica CHRISTIE (VW50-54) of Bellahouston Harriers was the first woman over the line in a time of 20:06. However the parkrun is not just for experienced club runners and the Pollok Park event attracted 70 first timers on Saturday many of them new to running.
Murray STRAIN (SM25-29) of Hunters Bog Trotters finished two seconds behind Gavin NOBLE in 15:39, in third position was Stephen MATHEWS (SM20-24) of East Kilbride AAC in a time of 16:08.
Women's Contest
Deborah GRAY (VW35-39) of Bellahouston Road Runners finished 22 seconds behind her Harriers rival in 20:28,in third place was Jill O'NEIL (SW30-34) of Garscube Harriers in a time of 21:29.
Across the entire field were lots of good efforts, with almost half of all returning runners recording a new PB. One of the 70 participating in the parkrun for the first time was Under 16, Scottish International Hockey player Heather Lang who finished in a respectable time of 25:00. Heather told SCOTTISH RUNNING GUIDE "I usualy train over shorter distances and on flatter surfaces, so I found it a bit testing but the encouragement from the more experienced runners kept me going and I really enjoyed the event."
