Your Chance To Run In Ethiopia

5 FEB2012

Run Balmoral

Leading runners are being alerted to a top prize for this year's Petrofac Challenge at Balmoral Castle. Winners of the 15 mile competition, which is part of Run Balmoral 2012, will win a trip to a major race in Ethiopia. Organisers hope the incentive of such a lucrative prize, will persuade many of the UK's top distance runners to make the journey to Royal Deeside.

The multi-terrain race, due to take place on Sunday, April 29, will see runners follow the banks of the river Dee before reaching Glen Gelder, with some wonderful views of Lochnager to the east and Cairngorms to the west.

Chairman of Balmoral Road Races, James Knowles, feels the prize will definitely prove to be a big attraction: "Our programme of races at Balmoral offers something for runners of all ages and abilities, but we felt we wanted to go a step further by doing something positive and exciting to promote opportunities for the country's best athletes."

James continued: "Ethiopia is one of the strongest distance running countries in the world and we have developed some good contacts over there. This has allowed as to put together a package which will give the men's and women's winners of the Petrofac Challenge the chance to compete in a top Ethiopian race."

Winners of the race will have the chance to compete in a half marathon in May 2012. If you want to take part in the Petrofac Challenge, or indeed any of the RunBalmoral events, visit their official website.
