Family Affair At All-Male 10k

3 FEB2012

Men's Health 10k

Former Scottish rugby internationals Gavin and Scott Hastings officially launched this year's Men's Health Forum Scotland (MHFS) 10k at the Palace of Art (Bellahouston Park) recently. The race, which falls on Father's Day - Sunday, June 17, is looking to build on the 4,000 entrants it attracted to Bellahouston Park last year.

The unique event, which is the only 10k in the country specifically for male runners, is the focus of National Men's Health Week in Scotland. The race looks to raise awareness of men's health issues and encourage participation in healthy physical activity all year round.

Scott Hastings believes the all-male event is a great way to explore issues that are often ignored: "Men rarely have the chance to talk about health but the Men's 10K really helps raise awareness of how important men's health is for all of us."

Scott added: "From fitness, to prostate cancer, to testicular cancer we can all benefit from speaking openly about our concerns, our reaction to dealing with health issues and through sport we can support each other."

Scott will be participating in the event alongside his brother, Gavin, on June 17. The former Scottish rugby captain commented: "As the MHFS 10k for Men takes place on Fathers Day it is great that both Scott and I are able to take part. We are both fathers and as former sportsmen, we feel privileged to have the opportunity to encourage other men to take part in such a wonderful and inspirational event."

If you want to take part in the MHFS 10k, visit the event website.
