Mo Marvellous In Glasgow Finale

30 JAN2012

Mo Farah Glasgow 2012

Mo Farah secured an enthralling victory for Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the Aviva International Match in Glasgow this weekend (Saturday, January 28). Farah prevailed in a closely contested 1500m sprint with Kenya's Augustine Choge, the fastest man in the world over the same distance last year.

With 400m to go, Farah and Choge could be seen trading elbows as they battled for the inside lane. The 5,000m World Champion finished with a time of 3:39:03, a new indoor PB for the runner. Farah's PB also represents the fastest 1500m at the stadium, a time that will stand as a permanent record as the international events will be moved from the Kelvin Hall to the new Commonwealth Arena.

Speaking after the race, Farah reflected on the remarkable support he received from the 3,500 spectators at the Kelvin Hall: "It was unbelievable. I just could not believe how much noise was coming out, it just made me work harder and harder. There was just so much noise. I have never experienced that in my life."

On his contest with Choge, Farah commented: "It was a good battle. I didn't want to give up the inside lane so I had to dig in, I had to push him a little bit, not to hurt him but just to let him know I was there so he didn't try and cut in." The 28-year-old continued: "I wanted to win because I was competing at home."

While Farah will no doubt be delighted to secure victory in a distance he hasn't participated in for almost 3 years, thoughts will inevitably turn to London: "The main thing was to start off with a win in 2012. But it's not about this one race, it's about adding them all up ahead of the Olympics."
