The parkrun success story in Scotland continued on Saturday (January 14, 2012) with a dramatic turnout of 1231 across the six Scottish events. Edinburgh (356) and Inverness (69) saw record fields as 'resolution' runners boosted attendances across the country. The previous record aggregate attendance for Scottish events was 965 runners.

Scottish parkrun activator Richard Leyton expressed his delight at the January 14 total: "Superb. Scottish parkrun attendance record absolutely smashed."

Fastest man across the country was Ronhill Cambuslang Harrier Robert Gilroy who was first at Strathclyde Park in 15:57 however possibly the most impressive performance was that of Ethan Sloan-Dennison (16:00), the teenager recording a PB at the tough Glasgow course. Jill Knowles (17:49) also clocked a PB to be first woman in Edinburgh and fastest female runner on the day in Scotland.

Of course, parkrun isn't just about the speedsters and hundreds of runners of all ages enjoyed their own personal successes in 20, 30, 40 and 50 something minutes.

Check out the parkrun website for results at all UK events on Saturday. If you'd like to take part in parkrun - the 5K weekly timed run is free - you must register online in advance at the parkrun website.
