Womens 10K Stepping Up

13 JAN2012

Ignis Management 10k

Confirmation of the 2012 Ignis Asset Management Women's 10k came with news that there will be several modifications to this year's race. Scheduled for Sunday, May 13, the event is expected to attract over 12,000 competitors for what is Scotland's largest all-women 10k road race.

This year's competition will see an increase in en-route entertainment with acts organised for every 500m. To ease congestion issues, there will be fewer women in each starting group, allowing runners to set off at their desired speed with less chance of interfering with other runners. There will also be pacers present at this year's event, meaning competitors have a real opportunity of setting that illusive PB.

After feedback from last year's runners, organisers have revealed the introduction of technical t-shirts designed to keep runners cooler on race day. The t-shirts are available at an upgrade price. Finally, the entry price will be frozen at £20 for the third year running.

Councillor George Redmond, Chair of Glasgow Life, commented on the modifications: "The Ignis Asset Management Women's 10k is such a special day. We have listened to what last year's runners have said - good and bad - and made five key improvements to make sure it says that way."

While there is a price freeze for this year's event, prospective competitors can also take advantage of an early bird offer that gives a discount to runners entering before Friday, March 16. For more information, visit the race website.
