Runners Brave Weather For Xmas Cracker

7 DEC2011

Christmas Cracker 5k

Despite freezing conditions and the occasional wintry shower, almost 300 runners competed in the annual jogscotland Christmas Cracker 5k on Sunday, December 4. Celebrating its sixth year, the event has continued to promote the benefits of running and physical activity during the festive season.

Organised in association with Run 4 It and North Lanarkshire Leisure, runners took to Strathclyde Park for a 5k course with many taking part in festive fancy dress. Andrew Lawler of Law and District AAC finished in first position with a time of 17 minutes while Piage Dickson was the first female home in 20:54.

Alistair Currie, jogscotland manager, was delighted by the day's proceedings: "The Christmas Cracker is a great way to take part in the festivities, without the usual indulgence that other forms of Christmas celebrations can have!"

Alistair continued: "The atmosphere was fantastic and the Christmas trees, snowmen and elves all seemed to enjoy themselves!"
