Edinburgh Marathon Ban Two Runners
26 JUN2009
The organisers of Edinburgh Marathon have banned two athletes from competing in events run by GSI Events after one male runner completed the Marathon wearing a race number that was issued to a female competitor. The female athlete has also been banned. The bans are indefinite.
A spokesperson for Edinburgh Marathon said: "The action was taken in conjunction with, and is supported by scottishathletics. The use of borrowed competitor numbers not only undermines the integrity of results, prizes and rankings issued by the sport but potentially has serious implications in the case of medical treatment to an athlete and alerting next of kin. All scottish athletes are reminded of the necessity to abide by the rules in this key area in future competitions."

Banned from events organised by the shambles responsible for the Edinburgh Marathon? Who'd want to do more of their races anyway?
