Sichel Sets Record At No Finish Line

Ultra distance runner William Sichel yesterday (Sunday, November 20) won the gruelling 8 Day No Finish Line in Monaco. The British international, holder of numerous long distance records, covered an incredible 622 miles (1002.2km) during a total of 192 hours.so

William's victory represents a new record at the Monaco course, surpassing Tond Sjavik's 922km set in 2009. Didier Sessegolo finished in second place with 935.10km, while Bernard Chevillon came in third with 924km. Indeed, in what was the strongest race in the event's history, all three men surpassed Sjavik's performance.

The British runner, 58, took command on the second day and continued to build an impressive lead throughout the race. To make the victory all the sweeter, William also managed to set a new Scottish 72hr record on the third day of the race with 275.88 miles, breaking Al Howie long-standing record of 272 miles.

His highly impressive CV includes completing the notoriously difficult Badwater Ultramarathon, runner-up in the Athens International Ultramarathon Festival (a 1000 mile road race), and a recent victory at the Hungarian 6 Day Championships, in which he covered over 500 miles.

William's Monaco victory will take him one step closer to his Project 60@60 in which he aims set 60 ultra distance records before reaching his 60th birthday on October 1, 2013. His numerous feats of endurance are all the more impressive considering he only took up long distance running at the age of 41.
