Garioch Gets Ready For 2012

18 NOV2011

Run Garioch

In preparation for one of the north east's most popular runs, the Garioch Sports Centre has announced the launch of their '10 Weeks To Run Garioch' programme. The Run Garioch event, which boasts 5k, 10k, and half-marathon distances, takes place on March 18, 2012 and hopes to attract 2,000 competitors.

The programme, designed for all levels of runner, builds on the success of the Sport's Centre's 'Ten Weeks to the 10K' training of previous years. The 10 week course involves guided runs, personalised advice from experienced coaches, and log-books that track each participant's progress.

Stuart Gordon, Associate Race Director and manager of the Garioch Sports Centre, feels the programme is evidence of the increasing popularity of the event: "We want to support running in Inverurie and the centre is delighted to be offering this expanded training programme to runners of all abilities and goals."

Co-director Eric Simpson feels the programme offers runners a highly personalised regime: "It is tailor-made for each individual's ability and goals and especially good for beginners as our coaches will be there to support them throughout. The programme is great for advanced runners too, as the planned technique sessions will take them beyond simply improving their fitness."

The training programme begins on Monday, January 2 and finishes with Run Garioch itself. There will be registration evening held at 7pm on Wednesday, December 7, at the Garioch Sports Centre, Burghmuir Drive, Inverurie.
