11 NOV2011

If the thought of a run-less, idle Christmas gets you fretting about diminishing fitness levels, the Aberdeenshire Winter Duathlon series will ensure you keep active during the winter months. The four part series begins at Inverurie on Sunday, November 27, and runs through to the first day in April when the event concludes at Knockburn.
The events are considered a great introduction to duathlons with manageable distance whilst also making for excellent cross-training courses for more seasoned runners.
The opening race at Inverurie consists of two 5km runs either side of a 21km cycle. The second event at Westhill on January 15 is a little lighter, with the runs 4k and the cycle 14k.
Estimated finish times are generally around the 1-2 hour mark and each race is scheduled to begin at 11.30am. Online registration is now open for the Inverurie event and is priced at £15 for race license holders. Entry dates for the other three venues will be announced shortly.
You can register for the Inverurie race and view the routes for all four duathlons at Aberdeenshire Council's website.
